Why should I choose Hairy Babies?
At Hairy Babies, we love our job, and being animal lovers makes it even easier. We have many happy customers, many of which like the fact that we are kind to their pet and this is evident in our open plan grooming area where everything we do can be seen. We offer great service, great value and the most important thing is your dog will enjoy a comfortable and memorable stay in our custom built, state of the art grooming parlour.

We are also fully insured and qualified in our chosen field.
Are you insured?
Yes. Your pet is fully insured whilst in our care.
Why does my dog need to be groomed?
Grooming is essential for a variety of reasons including, healthy skin, cleanliness, good health and results in less behavioural issues as our grooming process will make your dog feel more comfortable around people. Grooming not only cleans their coats but removes any dead undercoat and prevents mats from forming. The maintenance of your dogs coat is very important as it provides them with insulation during the winter and keeps them cool during the summer. As part of your dog’s grooming session, we will also examine your dog for a general health check and we will point out to you any issues if they need attention.
At what age should I start bringing my dog to get groomed?
As soon as a puppy has completed its vaccinations it should start making regular visits for grooming. There are a lot of new experiences for your puppy to discover and the younger they start the easier it is for them.
How often should my dog be groomed?
The answer to this question can vary widely based on the coat type and lifestyle of your dog. If your dog has a high maintenance coat (any coat that is long, thick, or curly, or mats easily) you may need to schedule grooming as frequently as every 4 weeks. Some people even prefer a bi-weekly schedule so that their dog always looks freshly groomed. If however, you have a dog with a lower maintenance coat (short haired coat) every 8 weeks may be enough to keep him or her looking great. A general rule of thumb for those in the middle is once every 6 weeks. We can usually advise the best time interval once we have more details on your dog or have worked with your dogs coat previously.
Can I stay with my dog while he/she is being groomed?
This is not usually a good idea, as to get the full co-operation of the dogs, we must have their undivided attention. Unfortunately and strange as it may sound, we have found in all but the rarest of cases that dogs behave better for us when their owners are not present! We really need to form a working relationship with your dog and this is not possible when its loyalty is divided. Most dogs behave much better without their owners there to distract them. Customers can come and have a look in the grooming salon at any time, as long as the dogs are not distracted.
How much will it cost to groom my dog?
Charges vary depending on the breed, size of the dog, the specified style & the condition of their coat. When you call to make an appointment we can give you an accurate price after getting all your dog’s details.
Regular grooming is expensive; I don’t think I can afford it.
We offer a “Loyalty Scheme” so customers can save on regular grooming for their dogs. Please note that getting your dog groomed regularly means that you won’t have to waste money and time buying poor quality dog shampoos, nail clippers and making Vet appointments for problems such as anal gland issues. All you have will have to do is brush your dogs coat regularly and leave the rest to us.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept Cash, Debit Cards and Credit Cards such as Visa and MasterCard.
Do you offer any discounts on your services?
We offer discounts on all our services to members of our Customer Loyalty Scheme. For more details check the “Customer Loyalty Scheme” section of our website.
Do you offer multiple dog discounts?
We are pleased to offer a discount for 3 or more dogs at the same time from the same owner. Please contact us for further details.
Do you offer OAP discounts?
Yes. Hairy Babies offers O.A.P’s a discount of 10% on all services.
How does my dog benefit from regular grooming?
Regular grooming means less stress for your dog. It reduces the amount of matting in your dogs coat which means less time on the grooming table and no knots pulling on your dog’s skin. They also learn good behaviour patterns and they receive a general health check as part of the grooming process. Regular professional grooming is essential to keep your dog healthy and happy.
I just want my dog washed and not groomed, do you offer this service?
Yes. We offer this service between grooms for members of our Customer Loyalty Scheme. Alternatively, we have a “Private Self Service Bath” service where owners themselves can wash their dogs in a peaceful, private setting within our grooming parlour.
How long will it take to get my dog groomed?
On average we allow 2.5 hours to groom your pet, this of course depends on if it’s a full groom or simply a brush out, it also depends on the size & temperament of your dog.

This all depends on the individual pet as coat, condition, age, temperament, breed and style are all relevant factors. When we meet your pet we can discuss any relevant issues as each client is different. Our main concern is the welfare of your pet whilst in our care and to make it an enjoyable experience for both them and us. Two hours is a good guide.
Do dogs with short coats require grooming?
Short coated dogs benefit from being groomed, as we are able to remove its dead coat and help eliminate moulting. It is also essential that their nails are clipped and their ears are cleaned, they will also benefit from a general health check.
I want my dog groomed to a style practical to me, not breed standard, is this OK?
Yes, this is fine. If you would like your dog groomed to a specific style, just tell us what you would like when making an appointment or bringing your dog into our parlour. We are more than happy to accommodate any requests you may have. Unless you specify a specific cut, we will groom your dog to breed standard.

If you don’t understand what a breed standard cut entails for your dog, please ask and we will be happy to explain.
Should I have my dog groomed in the winter, or is it too cold?
Many pet owners neglect to have their dogs groomed in the winter months. It may be cold, but our pets still need proper grooming. They may not need to have a trim but they should be properly brushed out and bathed, ears cleaned and nails trimmed. If you choose not to have your dog trimmed and he/she gets matted, the dog’s natural insulation process cannot work. He must be kept free of matts to stay warm in the winter.
My dog is very matted, will you still groom him?
Yes, I will always try to save your dog's coat and remove mats. I will discuss in consultation the best procedure for this. It may be best over a couple of appointments to prevent distress to your dog. Where dogs are very young or mats are too thick, we will discuss clipping to a shorter more practical style, where we can "start again". We will also discuss a maintenance strategy to ensure it is easier for you to maintain your dog's style. Decisions are always yours, not mine.
The last groomer shaved my dog’s hair, will you shave him?
We will examine your pets coat when you come in and make our recommendations on the best way to proceed. We pride ourselves in our ability to save a pets coat in certain circumstances and prefer to keep your dog looking their best. If however your pet is more than 60% matted we will need to shave the coat as it is unfair to your pet as brushing out the mats can be a time consuming process leading to severe discomfort and pain for the dog! We will always consult you before any shave down takes of your pet takes place.

We will suggest setting up a regular grooming schedule to keep your pets coat in top condition to prevent future matted pet shave-downs.
I need my dog groomed out of hours, can you help me?
Yes. We offer an “emergency out of hours” grooming service. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We can only perform this service in our grooming parlour located in Tullamore, Co. Offaly. This service incurs an additional fee of €15 per dog.
Can I come to Hairy Babies for general advice on how to maintain my dog’s groom?
Yes. We are happy to give you advice on maintaining your dog’s coat, and any of your concerns regarding your pet’s needs.
Can I leave my pet with you all day, while I am at work?
Yes. This service costs incurs an additional €10 fee but please remember that spending a full day in a grooming salon is very stressful for your pet!
My dog is old / sick / disabled, and I am nervous of leaving him?
Don’t be. We are fully trained to deal with old, sick and disabled dogs. We give all old / sick and disabled pets the special care they deserve to make their grooming appointment stress free and enjoyable.

We are trained in Canine First Aid and a fully qualified Vet is located next door to our grooming parlour.
Will you groom a pregnant dog or a dog “in heat”?
Yes. We will groom both pregnant dogs and dogs “in heat”. When booking an appointment, please let us know that your dog is pregnant, as extra special care will be given to your dog, so it enjoys the grooming experience.

We will also groom dogs “in heat”, but please state this when booking your dog in for an appointment.
Is there a breed / size of dog you cannot groom?
No. At Hairy Babies we are qualified to groom any breed of dog, and dogs of any size, including giant breeds.
Do I require an appointment for all your services?
No. There are some services that don’t require a booking; these are nail clipping, nail painting and ear cleaning. You can also use our “Private Self Service Bath” without making an appointment, just come in! It is also possible to do a brush out or to bathe a dog without an appointment depending on availability.
I won’t be able to make my appointment, what do I do?
We understand that emergency situations may come up and some people may not be able to make it to their scheduled grooming appointment. If this is the case, please call us as early as possible to let us know you cannot attend as we may be able to allocate your appointment slot to another customer. We can then re-schedule you in for another appointment that better suits you and your dog.
How come you don't list prices on your website?
Our rates are not posted on our website because the rates may differ from dog to dog because of breed, size, temperament and condition of the pet's coat as well as any pet style that's chosen for the cut.
